First Architectural Love

I was fourteen years old and rather than be concerned about which boy band had the hotest guy or what Madonna song had become an anthem for my peers, I was obsessed with viewing the movie Housesitter. I had fallen in love with the home at the epicenter of the film and could not pry myself free. Years later, as we begin to think about what our future house will look like, there is a nostalgic part of me that would adore an abode similar to one the featured opposite Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn. Although this doesn't appear to be the direction we're heading in, there is still a big part of me that is in love with this design.

Butler's Pantry

Charming as always is the Butler's Pantry. Such a lovely, functional aspect of homes popular in the 18th century which is apparently making a comeback in modern design.  A quaint passageway to the dining room from the kitchen it's inevitable that in our home it may end up serving as the dumping ground, post meal time, as we transition to the next kid driven activity or event.  Regardless, AJ and I LOVE this concept and hope to integrate it in the OC.

Keeping Room

AJ and I are in LOVE with the concept of having a Keeping Room off of the kitchen. Dating back to Colonial times, it provided a warm spot on a cold night where the family could gather. While our ancestors were toasty around the kitchen stove, modern design often incorporates a fireplace as the focal point. The idea of migrating to the keeping room after mealtime to be together and/or a place to contain the kids while I'm preparing dinner is extremely appealing and so pretty to look at.

I love the concept of a clean kitchen without fuss and chaos.  With three kids, two dogs, a cat and twins on the way we make enough of our own noise. An air of serenity in a room typically referred to as the heart of the home, would be greatly appreciated.

Dream Exterior

When I close my eyes and imagine our dream home this is what I see.
This is more along the lines of what AJ envisions.

Let's hope for a very patient and creative builder...
